Tap Tap is a brand of rhythm games by Tapulous available as an application for the iPhone OS of which several versions, both paid for and free, have been produced. The games have a simple interface, similar to popular games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The goal of the game is to tap each of the colored balls when they reach a line at the bottom of the screen. If the ball is hit on the beat, the player gains points, but if not, it counts as a miss. There are also "shakes", which require the player to move the iPhone or iPod Touch to the right, left, or middle.
To date there are seven games in the Tap Tap series of games: Tap Tap Revenge, Nine Inch Nails Revenge, Tap Tap Dance, Christmas with Weezer, Tap Tap Revenge 2, Tap Tap Coldplay and Tap Tap Revenge 3.

[edit] Versions
[edit] Tap Tap Revenge
The first game in the series, Tap Tap Revenge, was created and developed by Tapulous, a startup company at the time of release. The company creates applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Originally, the game was developed by Nate True for jailbroken iPhones and iPod Touches, and was called Tap Tap Revolution, after the Dance Dance Revolution series. Also for jailbroken iPhones and iPod Touches, many people created themes which could be downloaded from the Cydia application to make the games theme look like Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Tapulous bought the game from True, and added features such as online tournaments, leader boards, and multi-player mode to the game. Tapulous hired a team of "rock star" game developers to work the game on US$1.8 million in raised funds. There is also a "revenge" mode which 8x the scores each beat you hit. To activate the "Revenge mode", you have to shake the iPhone or the iPod Touch slightly to activate it, and must already have a 50 beat streak. After the 2nd version of Tap Tap Revenge was released, Tapulous re-released the original version as Tap Tap Revenge Classic at a $0.99 price point.
[edit] Nine Inch Nails Revenge
In October 2008, Tapulous announced that they were working on a Nine Inch Nails-branded version of Tap Tap Revenge, named Nine Inch Nails Revenge, including a special Nine Inch Nails skin and 16 songs from the band's albums Ghosts I-IV and The Slip, some of which would be specially edited for the game. This was to be the first non-free game in the series.
[edit] Tap Tap Dance
In December 2008, Tapulous released the second non-free game of the series Tap Tap Dance, an updated version of Tap Tap Revenge which features a revamped graphics engine and ten songs by well-known artists including Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk. The game also introduces two- and three-finger taps, and tap-and-holds (similar to chords in other rhythm games), and boss levels which are uniquely-styled and more challenging than standard songs.
[edit] Christmas with Weezer
Tapulous also released Christmas with Weezer, which features the new graphics engine and gameplay dynamics, and allows players to tap to a series of Christmas carols performed by rock band Weezer. The songs "Pork and Beans" and "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived" (from The Red Album) are also added to the songlist. The game also features a new Kids mode, in which the score rises no matter where you tap on the screen.
